WASHINGTON -- There's some good news for Washington High School students. They're getting a few extra days of summer.
The high school has pushed the start date back to Sept. 4. The school board approved the change at Monday night's meeting.
The 10.2 million dollar construction project is delaying the date through the Labor Day weekend.
Superintendent Dr. Jim Dunnan said the new addition is well worth the wait. "What it does, it really ties everything together. Our campus consists of three seperate buildings, built in different decades, 40s, 50s, 60s, and actually the 70s as well, this ties everything together, makes it a safe and secure school setting."
The high school will get a new entry way, multipurpose room, kitchen and 12 classrooms from the expansion.
Dr. Dunnan said they project the school to grow from 1,200 students to 1,400 by 2020.
