KABUL, Afghanistan ? A website run by the Afghan Taliban says that the militant group has acquired security plans for an upcoming national meeting in Kabul, but the Afghan government has dismissed the claim as baseless.
The Afghan Ministry of Interior said in a statement Sunday that the Taliban want to scare Afghans who will attend the traditional Loya Jirga later this month.
The Taliban boasted on its website that maps and documents they have obtained will allow them to launch precision attacks on the meeting.
A translation of the message was released Sunday night by a U.S.-based organization that monitors militant websites.
The gathering is being held to discuss a future U.S.-Afghan strategic partnership agreement and efforts to reconcile with the Taliban.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? The U.S. military says a man captured during an operation in eastern Afghanistan nearly three weeks ago has died in detention.
U.S. Central Command says in a statement issued Monday that the detainee had been receiving medical care since he was taken on Oct. 25 in Kunar province. No details were given about his injuries or ailments. He had been held at a detention facility adjoining Bagram Air Field.
The statement says the man died Sunday morning after displaying "serious medical symptoms." The military says all efforts were taken to save his life and his remains are being handled according to Afghan and religious customs.
An investigation has been opened into the death. The military said this is normal procedure for the deaths of detainees in their care.
